My Daydream Believer Cover
This Daydream Believer cover was a fun video to make. I did this one a bit differently than most of The Midnight Performance videos I create.
While the preparation stage was the same, and I shot it against a green screen as usual, the editing stage was where I deviated from my norm. Rather than using my standard Retro Cafe’ backdrops, I felt this song would be best suited by an outdoors setting that went along with lyrics. So, I started the video by placing myself beneath a tree in a morning scene to complement the first verse about waking up.
Next, as the chorus turns to daydreaming, I wanted to show that by creating a “daydream sequence”. So for this, I used a second photo with a view looking up into a circle of colorful fall foliage and added some animation to have it slowly rotating. I then merged the first verse scene with this chorus daydream sequence using a rotating spin effect with blur. This results in the first scene spinning into the eventual daydream sequence.
Of course, this Daydream Believer cover video was only possible using my green screen setup. Speaking of which, there’s been some interest in my putting together a course on how to create green screen videos such as this one and my other cover videos. So, I’ve been contemplating putting together a green screen course with a slant toward indie musicians who are interested in DIY music video production on a shoe-string budget.
What’s more, I’m thinking of giving the course away as a bonus to the initial supporters of my Retro Fever Patreon when it launches (it will thereafter only be available for sale). For now, I’ve created a poll where you can vote from among several options as to to what the bonus will be. You can take the poll here and let me know.
One of the Good Wakeup Songs
If you’re looking for good wakeup songs, I think Daydream Believer by the Monkees is one of the best. With it’s upbeat melody and catchy lyrics in the first verse about waking up, it’s almost the perfect song to wakeup to.
Songs Telling Someone You Love Them
The second verse in this Daydream Believer cover is where this tune excels among songs telling someone you love them. “Our good times start and end without dollar one to spend, but how much baby do we really need?”. This lyric captures the essence of a true love, where the focus is on each other rather than any material possessions they have between them.
It’s all about a lover saying to their beloved “we can make it work as long as we have each other”, pointing out they they don’t need that much to get by anyway. It’s a groovy kind of love.
